link 🔗

The Link emoji shows two metallic links in a chain. The chain links are slightly rectangular in shape. The Link emoji is often used to represent a hyperlink. A hyperlink is an online reference to data users can access by simply clicking or tapping. Other names of the Link emoji include the Chain Link emoji, or the Linking Symbol. Each link in the Link emoji represents a bond, a connection, a closeness between two people, an inseparable link.

Sometimes the Link emoji is mistaken for the Paper Clip emoji. The Paper Clip emoji is a picture of a paper clip, a popular piece of office stationery used to hold sheets of paper together. What makes them different is that the paper clip is made up of a plastic steel wire with an opening at one side.

On the other hand, the two or three links in a chain in the Link emoji are not open ended. They don’t even have an opening at all. Moreover, the Notepad emoji is used in the context of officework, paperwork and studying. The link icon cannot be used in that context.

🔗 Link is a fully-qualified emoji as part of Unicode 6.0 which was introduced in 2010.
