om
The OM Symbol emoji, also known as the AUM symbol, is a spiritual emoji that is the physical representation of the Universe and the truest form of reality. In terms of creation, it refers to the word “aum” which means creation, manifestation, and destruction. It is also a symbolism of the holy trinity of Hindu gods Brahma, Shiva, and Vishnu. The om emoji was designed from the om text symbol, which is used by both Hinduism, Sikhism, Buddhism, and Jainism. There are other names for the om symbol, which is aumkara, omkara, and pranava.
The om emoji is usually featured written on a white font with a purple background.
Using the om symbol almost always refers to the religions that use it. It is popularly known to be associated with Buddha. However, it was Hinduism that first used this symbol. In Buddhism, the om symbol is chanted to manifest compassion and connection. Using the om symbol next to Prayer Beads emoji undoubtedly explains that you are currently praying in reference to the four religions that use the om symbol.
Another way of using the om symbol is to refer to meditation. Using the Person in Lotus Position emoji and Candle emoji next to the om symbol refers to a moment of silence in order to bring three parts of yourself into unity. These three parts are mind, body, and spirit.
Om is a fully-qualified emoji as part of Unicode 7.0 which was introduced in 2014, and was added to Emoji 0.7.
