Unicode is the international standard that assigns a unique number (called a code point) to every text character in every writing system. Letters, digits, punctuation, hieroglyphs, math symbols and emojis all get Unicode code points.

Unicode makes it possible for any text — including emojis — to be typed, stored and displayed consistently across operating systems, fonts and languages.
