How is an emoji different from a sticker?

An emoji is a Unicode character — part of the text itself, small, renderable at any size. A sticker is an image — bigger, often animated, not part of the text, and specific to the app you're using (iMessage, WhatsApp, Telegram, etc.).

Emojis work anywhere Unicode works; stickers don't travel between apps.
