Geometric emojis are the colored shapes Unicode uses for diagrams, lists, and abstract callouts — 🔴 red circle, 🔵 blue circle, ⚫ black circle, ⚪ white circle, ⬛ black large square, ⬜ white large square, ◾ black medium-small square, ◽ white medium-small square, 🟥 red square, 🟧 orange square, 🟨 yellow square, 🟩 green square, 🟦 blue square, 🟪 purple square, 🟫 brown square, plus diamonds and triangles. They're essential for status indicators, progress bars built in chat (🟩🟩🟩⬜⬜ 60%), and color-coded labels. Wordle's daily share blocks rely entirely on these.

Frequently asked about geometric emojis

Why do Wordle results use 🟩 and 🟨?

Wordle uses ⬜ (gray miss), 🟨 (yellow, right letter wrong spot), and 🟩 (green, exact match) because they're the only universally rendered colored-square emojis. The colored squares were added in Unicode 12 (2019), which is partly why Wordle's share format wasn't possible before then.

What's the difference between ⬛ and ◾?

⬛ is a large black square; ◾ is medium-small. The size series (⬛ ◼ ◾ ▪) lets designers build pixel-art or progress visualizations with varying weights. On most platforms the rendering is consistently sized, so combining them in a row creates visual hierarchy.
