Can I trademark an emoji?

No — you can't trademark a Unicode character on its own (it's a public standard). You can trademark a stylized drawing of an emoji inside a distinctive logo, and a few companies have (notably The Smiley Company, which owns the ☺ smiley trademark in many jurisdictions).
